Mission Statement

    Our goal at Homeschool HotSpot.com is to create a virtual community that reflects the incredible diversity among homeschoolers and the endless educational opportunities available to those living and learning within the Flathead and Mission Valleys.  We hope to serve this community by providing a forum from which information, resources, and support can be pooled and drawn upon as needed to encourage, inform, and ultimately educate our children.

1: an information "hub"  from which homeschool families throughout the Mission and Flathead Valleys can  explore mutual interests and share local educational resources and opportunities.

2:  an access point providing links to information on current Montana Law, local district issues and pending homeschool legislation, allowing and encouraging each homeschool family to determine which bills they support or oppose.

3:  a friendly place in which to find support and camaraderie while enjoying each other's company in enriching group activities with other diverse people united in our love for our children and in our valuing the freedom and privilege to teach and learn at home.

Q:  What do John Quincy Adams, Ben Franklin, Patrick Henry, Woodrow Wilson, Agatha Christie, and Justice Sandra Day O'Conner have in common?

A:  Each was educated at home at one point in their lives. But they are not the only ones...

There were an estimated 2.1 million students educated at home in 2003.  Studies predict this number will continue to climb.  Motivations for homeschooling run the gamut. Some of the reasons why families choose this alternative include: 

· academic and learning reasons
· values-based or religious reasons
· social issues
· health issues
· safety concerns
· flexibility of family schedules or lifestyles

The overriding reason, however, is that homeschooling offers freedom along with responsibility -- freedom to make their own decisions regarding how they wish their children to live and learn. Whatever initially leads parents to make this choice, homeschooling nearly always evolves into something far more than an alternative educational choice -- it becomes a lifestyle choice of personal responsibility and freedom and incredible joy within a close family life.
