Hi,

I was tickled to hear that the Mission Valley had a homeschool website (at the get-together on the 24th). The site looks great; very functional and helpful. Though our two girls are officially past the homeschool process (with GEDs to their credit) I still like to keep up with the goings-on in the homeschool world.

The point of this message is to see if you would add http://www.home-school.com to your resources page. It's the site of Practical Homeschooling Magazine which I have subscribed to and found helpful and encouraging for almost my whole homeschooling career.

Thanks for the great website!

Hi,

I'd like to do a review of Ida B, the chapter book we're currently reading aloud at the afternoon storyhour at the Columbia Falls Library. It's an enjoyably written book about a quirky, smart, and fairly stubborn 9 year old girl. She's been homeschooled for four years, but circumstances change and dictate that she must attend public school.

This book is one of the nominees for the Young Reader's Choice Award to be given in 2007. It is very satisfying to me that it has a homeschooled girl as the main character. Since it is up for the award, local libraries should have copies for you! Ann

I have a review on new curriculum we are using this year. Currently we are using the Alph Omega "Switched on Schoolhouse" computer curriculum, grades 8th and 11th. What a time saver! It took me about two hours to install the teacher's administrator information (because I am so slow!) which included blocking out non school days, installing CD's of each subject, and setting parameters for grading, % off for spelling errors, etc. Once done, I clicked and yahoo the entire year's worth of lessons was assigned!! The child logs on as the student and pulls up a week's worth of lessons at a time. Once the lesson is completed, it is immediately graded so the student knows how well they did, and what, if anything, they need to work on. They proceed to the next subject and continue until completed. At the end of the day I can log on, check all of the scores, see any skipped problems, read any messages left in regards to reasons why they couldn't complete a problem. This leaves our mo rnings free for group activities until about 11, we eat lunch, and they complete the required assignments on the computer! I was blessed to find these at a rummage sale, but think they retail around $250 per grade! For those of you with many children this may be the answer you are looking for! Sure has blessed us! - Melanie
