Environmental Regulations

Environmental regulations are self-imposed and may change as needed.

  • (A) No bottom washing or wet sanding of ablative paint is allowed in the boatyard. We recommend VC-17 or hard modified epoxy based antifouling bottom paint or antifouling wax.
  • (B) Sanding and grinding areas must be completely enclosed with plastic, and or tarp in order to contain dust and debris or a yard-approved vacuum sanding system must be used and is recommended. Minor grinding only, daily cleanup is required and please observe quiet time (8pm to 8am) with the use of power tools.
  • (C) Scraping, paint chips and debris must be contained. Any strong wind will make this difficult and extra tarps must be used to block the wind or to cover the ground, whichever works best.
  • (D) Dangerous waste such as used oils, fuel, antifreeze, solvent, thinners, unused paint, chemicals, batteries etc., must be disposed of properly and timely. Some open containers have fumes that are a fire hazard. Containers left out can spill or fill with rain and overflow. Call or see yard management if in question and use environmentally friendly products whenever possible.
  • (E) No sandblasting or spray painting without written permission or supervision. Daily cleanup is required and ground tarps must be cleaned of all paint, dust, chips, etc. at the end of your workday. Any un-chaining and moving of boat stands must be done with yard personnel assistance.
  • (F) No sewage or gray water discharge allowed in lake or boatyard. Holding tanks and porta-potties need to be emptied in appropriate areas and boats with sewage thru-hulls are not allowed at this facility and need to be capped or closed and sealed prior to launch. Any spills should e reported to yard management as soon as possible.
  • (G) Boat cleaning should be done on shore when possible, and done with environmentally friendly methods and products. Degreasers dry the natural oils fish need for their gills to take in oxygen. Baking soda or sale is a good alternative to scouring powder. Vinegar and water makes a good cleaning solution.
  • (H) Use caution when filling your fuel tank to avoid spillage into water. A single gallon of fuel can contaminate over a million gallons of water. Wipe up any spills on the boat with a rag. Check engines for leaks or drips. Use and dispose of all solid waste properly. Stow all loose items like plastic bags and drink cans so they don't blow overboard.
  • (J) Prevent the introduction of exotic plants and animals. Check bilges, and flush raw water cooling systems and strainers before launching boats from other areas.
